Nature Collections

NEW WORK, COMING SOON...
I live in a little cabin in the woods and I go hiking almost everyday.
My time in nature really inspires my artwork,
especially during this time of year.

I've been collecting natural objects while I wander through the forest…
feathers, butterfly wings, bark, moss, rocks, branches…

They've been scattered on shelves around my house
and stored in boxes around my studio.

I was imagining what I might do with them
and recently decided to arrange them into still lifes for paintings.

This series is far more detailed and realistic than my usual work.
I was inspired by a visit to the Brandywine Museum of Art
and one of my favorite artists, Andrew Wyeth.

Wyeth's work has been an important influence on me as an artist–
particularly his looser, more minimalistic sketches.
But for these paintings, I wanted to challenge myself
to venture into realism like his finished pieces.

It took many meditative hours of observation and concentration
to capture the details, textures and shadows in these paintings.

So far, I've created three pieces, which can be seen in this video.
Stick around until the end of the video to see Wyeth's studio
and the forest that inspired these pieces!

I'll be releasing these three paintings soon!
